In the Ptolemaic period, the reason, content, time and location of publication, and other aspects of the priestly decrees issued by the priests reflect the subtle relationship between the Ptolemaic royal house and the indigenous Egyptian priesthood. The content of the decrees demonstrates that the local priests, being well aware of the decline of the royal power, took advantage of this situation to reinforce and revive the traditional Egyptian religion through a variety of ways such as the definition of the role of the king, the legitimization of the foundation of kingship and the deification of members of the royal family.
