竹沟是中原地区较早的抗日根据地，是新四军第四师诞生的摇篮，是第四师军政干部的重要培养基地，也是新四军第二师一部、第四师、第五师的诞生地。作为抗战初期中国共产党在中原地区发展的重要战略支撑点，竹沟为新四军的发展壮大做出了卓越的历史贡献。%Zhugou was the earlier base of Resistance against Japan in Henan, it＇s the cradle and the important culture medium for the party and local government cadres of the 4th Division as well as the cradle of the 2nd Division, the 4th Division and the 5th Division. As the important strategically supporting point, Zhugou pitched in predominant contribution for the NFA to expand and strengthen.
