Taking Alice Munro’s Nettles as research material, and based on the approach of textual -discourse construction of rhetoric by Mikhail Bakhitin and Tan Xuechun, this paper explores the significance of rhetoric in the construction of literary text from the following three aspects: 1 ) How the first person narrative perspective portrays the characters and deepens the theme? 2) How different ways of narrative time develop the plot? and 3) How metaphors make the text cohesive and coherent?%爱丽丝·门罗的短篇小说《荨麻》采用第一人称叙述视角，有效地丰富人物形象，深化主题意义；顺叙、倒叙、插叙、补叙等叙事时序，实现了空间与时间的相互转化，推进了故事的情节发展；隐喻的运用使故事发展自然流畅，语篇更加衔接和连贯。这些修辞手段的运用，共同完成了文本的建构。
