The Poetry of the Early Tang, The Great Age of Chinese Poetry： The High Tang, and The Late Tang：Chinese Poetry of the Mid-Ninth Century are Stephen Owen＇ s three important works about the literary history of the Tang Dynasty. In these three books, Owen has translated altogether 751 Tang poems, an amaz- ingly large number. Owen has adopted the philological translation mode in these three books in order to serve better his historical construction and research of the Tang poetry. In particular, the translator chooses to keep philological rigor in his version and offers a large number of notes and explanations.
