Detailed knowledge of micro- or nano-size particle deposition in human respiratory tracts is an important issue in understanding the effect of exposure to pollutants in risk assessment as well as in assessing the efficacy of inhaled drug therapy. The complicated flow field can be simulated in realistic respiratory tract models with the help of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation method and the resulting deposition profiles are more accurate.
