This paper analyzes the teaching of Studio 1B at Southern California Institute of Architecture in respects of design topics, teaching objects, teaching methods, etc. Students start from form analysis of classical cases and extraction of abstract forms, and then perform elaborate geometric operations with the Rhino software. The results are used as the basis for layout design and form generation. This class emphasizes design methods and individual views. The teaching method provides useful references to basic design education of architecture in China.%对美国南加州建筑学院本科一年级下学期的设计课程作了详细解读,还原了该学期一系列设计练习的内容设置、教学目标和教学方法.从经典案例的形式分析入手,从中提取抽象的几何形式作为"原始型",再以该"原始型"的生成逻辑为依据,借助软件对其进行叠加、变形等几何操作,作为最后建筑平面设计和空间形式生成的基础.课程强调设计方法的训练和个人观点的形成,对国内建筑学基础教育具有一定的参考价值.
