Among the chain of mysterious destructions of Pyncheons,Alice’s death arouses divergent critical views in that the death befalls upon a female member of Pyncheon who is depicted as an innocent seventeen-year-old maiden with great beauty,elegance and tenderness.This paper intends to draw a tentative conclusion that Alice is the blameless victim of class conflict by making a close textual analysis of the novel The House.
