This paper reviews the recent development on urban open space researches, and proposes a new research direction: by developing the concept of Service Capability, to formulate a "form and activity" research model. Using soft systems methodology as the research framework, this paper goes on to explain how this new research direction would work: based on the existing research, it proposes a"(macro) form-(citizen) activity-(micro) form"research model; it then suggests to testify this ideal model using multiple methods, such as case study, fieldwork, qualitative and quantitative methods, and from macro to micro scale. The objective of this new research model is to reveal the essence of urban open space, for a higher level of service capability.%在回顾近期国内外城市开放空间研究的基础上，指出当前研究的趋势与不足，并提出一个全新的研究视角：通过建立城市开放空间“服务能力”的概念，构建对其评价的多维度“形动”（形态与活动）耦合模型。借助软系统的分析方法，提出该视角下的研究思路：在对典型研究问题进行理论研究的基础上，演绎出“（宏观）形态---（市民）活动---（微观）形态”的城市开放空间服务能力的概念模型；建议再通过实地资料收集和田野调研，以定量与定性相结合、宏观与微观综合分析的方法，揭示城市开放空间的现象和特征，并验证概念模型，为解释当前城市开放空间形态、提升城市开放空间的服务能力奠定基础。
