摘要

The overall purpose of the cancer education package was to provide an individual with a current assessment of his knowledge of a particular area of oncology and then to provide a brief explanation in areas of weakness. The package performed two general functions which included 1) self-assessment/education and re-evaluation, and 2) collection of statistical information on use of the package itself. All users were required to log into the computer system via a special security section. After entering a particular self-assessment “quiz”, the user could answer the question, skip the question, obtain an explanation of the question, or stop the quiz session at any time. After completing a quiz session, the user was given his score for that session and could then return to any or all questions presented during that session. The statistical data collected by the package were used to improve performance of the cancer education package and to provide the authors with feedback on their self-assessment section(s). In general, the clinical cancer education package has maintained a high level of interest for the users while providing immediate feedback of educational information. This approach may be a fruitful alternative to traditional computer assisted instruction.
