摘要

Our institution undertook an effort to develop a system to integrate patient information from heterogeneous systems. Webster defines integrate as “to bring parts together into a whole.” The “whole” would be a total picture of the patient which could only be achieved by minimizing the redundancy, inefficiency, cumbersomeness, and inconvenience to the patient which previously existed at Albany Medical Center. Albany Medical Center encompasses a 650-bed tertiary care teaching facility, a physician practice group and medical college. This paper will examine the steps we took and problems we encountered as we began to integrate new and existing systems into what we would call our Patient Information Network (PIN).
