摘要

The desire and need to work beyond ages traditionally associated with retirement is increasingly recognised. For many, this ‘new retirement’ represents a transition from full-time paid employment to other paid work situations. However, the impact of these transitions for older adults and the pre-transition predictors of positive outcomes, remain largely unexamined. This project examined the medium-term impacts of transitions from full-time work for an employer to other employment types on the quality of life of older adults responding to the New Zealand Health, Work and Retirement longitudinal study. Latent class analyses were used to describe pre-post transition quality of life profiles of persons transitioning into part-time, flexible, contract, and self-employment situations between 2013–2016. The pre-transition demographic, health, work, occupation and financial characteristics associated with different quality of life outcomes were compared. Results illustrate the impact of employment transitions for older workers and describe the pre-transition characteristics associated with positive outcomes.
