To produce the 3rd HBI Road Map for Public Health, 2018–2023, a Leadership Committee – comprised of subject matter experts and stakeholders – met over six months to examine progress-to-date and identify leading public health issues for the next five years. Workgroups were formed, focusing on five overarching issues: risk identification and risk reduction, diagnosis, education and training, caregivers, and evidence on impact of the disease. Each workgroup developed a proposed set of actions based on available evidence, public policy developments, and current public health practice before soliciting input from national, state, and local content experts, practitioners, and decision-makers about the scope, intent, and feasibility of the proposed actions. This process ensured the resulting 3rd Road Map action agenda was bold, comprehensive, and attainable so that the public health community can advance cognitive health, detect and manage cognitive impairment, and optimize well-being for people living with dementia and their caregivers.
