Fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) image of a biopsy taken from a patient with a chronic wound. Bacteria are detected with 16S rRNA fluorescein‐labelled EUB537 universal probe that detects all species of bacteria. This FISH slides show multiple biofilm aggregates as well as single bacterial cells, which are present throughout the wound environment (60× objectives). Bacterial cells are in bright green colour.
