First, the bad news courtesy of the Department of Commerce: Over one million businesses are started every year in the U.S. and 40 percent fail by the end of 12 months. Another 40 percent fail after five years, and 80 percent of those, which don't fail in the first five years, do so in another five years. With globs of published materials on starting a successful business, why are these stats so staggering? An accounting practice is a "business" and ultimately it becomes a reflection of who you are. An accounting, legal, architectural, management consulting, or real estate firm is fundamentally a "business" and, as it is formed and grows, becomes a reflection of the owner(s)/partners.
