摘要

Academic libraries are complex organizations and present many challenges to managers and administrators. With Academic Library Management: Case Studies, editors Tammy Nickelson Dearie, Michael Meth, and Elaine L. Westbrooks have brought together 14 excellent case studies that delve into the academic library landscape. The editors explain that the case studies were inspired by a shared experience of the authors in the UCLA Senior Fellows Program that took place in 2014. In the first chapter, Charles Lyons, H. Austin Booth, and Scott Hollander discuss how the University at Buffalo addressed faculty governance issues as they prepare for and carry out an overall library reorganization. K. Megan Sheffield and M.H. Albro present Clemson University Libraries' strategic planning process in Chapter 2; the authors emphasize the need to allow for flexibility and feedback throughout the process. In Chapter 3, authors Brian W. Keith and Laura I. Spears demonstrate how they used Association of Research Libraries' statistical data to benchmark their university's library funding model with that of three sets of peer institutions. In the fourth entry in this collection, Catherine Murray-Rust and Yolanda Cooper relate how their respective universities collaborated on a joint-use library service facility, allowing them to share collections, services, expertise, and resources.
