摘要

A lot has been written about patron-driven/demand-driven acquisition (PDA/DDA) programs and how libraries of all types and sizes have implemented this acquisition method. The premise is really quite simple: a candidate pool of e-book titles are loaded into the catalog so that they can be discovered by users. The library does not pay for these titles until they are accessed, and purchase is triggered in the form of short-term loans (STLs). When the maximum number of STLs set by a particular library is reached, then full list price purchase of an e-book title occurs. In reality, however, there is more to PDA/DDA than that, especially on the management, title selection, workflow, budget, and usage analysis side. That is why there is never a dearth of materials, whether books or articles, on PDA/DDA programs, implementations, and best practices in academic libraries.
