This issue's ERM Ideas and Innovations column is from myself, Lenore England, Assistant Director, Electronic Resources Management, and Jennifer Diffin, Assistant Director, Systems and Access Services. We both work at the University of Maryland University College Library (UMUC Library). We discuss an organizational approach to critical electronic resources management (ERM) workflows and processes, which has resulted in no additional cost and greatly improved project planning. To organize ERM, we utilize Web 2.0 tools readily available at UMUC that we repurpose successfully for ERM: LibGuides and Jive software. The use of these tools is also part of a larger strategic perspective of reaching out beyond the UMUC Library to other UMUC departments and ultimately directly involving them in our work.
