In today's increasingly electronic realm of learning, instruction, and research, there is a need for academic institutions to provide tools that support online learners. The proliferation of Massive Open Online Courses, or MOOCs, makes it possible to meet the growing demand for online learning, continuing education, and personal development among students. Libraries play a big role in this arena by providing instruction support for distance learners and delivering information literacy courses in an online environment. However, it can be daunting for libraries to embark on this role as an online learning provider primarily because of limited staffing, insufficient technological capacity, and dwindling budgets.
