The White House recently issued a Presidential Directive relating to the revision of the United States' policy on space-based positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT). The need for the revised policy is based in part on the fact that the Global Positioning System (GPS) need has shifted. The continued growth of services based on GPS presents opportunities; but it also creates risks and threats to the national, homeland and economic security of the United States.
