At press time, eighteen months have elapsed since the 9/11 disasters. Public attention, quite naturally, has focused on recovery from those terrorist acts as well as on preventing any reoccurrence. In that vein, some of our nation's best and brightest inventors have marshaled resources to defend us, responding with technologies on the verge of fantasy. Those high-tech weapons won't just deter terrorism, however; they'll become integral to the twenty-first century crime fighting arsenal. Let's look at a few of the more remarkable innovations and their underlying imaging technologies.
