Hong Kong: An R&D Hub in Asia for Materials Science and Engineering

摘要

Hong Kong is not only famed as a global financial center, but is also distinguished as an outstanding R&D hub for nurturing talent in science, technology, and innovation over the past twenty years. In particular, being a Special Administrative Region of China, Hong Kong possesses unique advantages in world-class higher education and academic research in materials science and engineering, networking closely with leading institutions and companies on the mainland and in many other countries. In view of this great opportunity, the Hong Kong Government established three R&D centers in 2006, including the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (NAMI), the Applied Science and Technology Research Institute (ASTRI), and the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), which cater for market-driven development and technology transfer in advanced materials and nanotechnology. Meanwhile, a 22-hectare Hong Kong Science Park was set up to provide a platform for commercialization of these innovative technologies.
