We are grateful to Prof. Di Ventra for pointing out values that were misquoted in our review. These discrepancies are too small to alter our main point, which is that theory and experiment are now in much better alignment in this field. Lest DiVentra's comment be taken to imply that the jellium model - which neglects chemical detail - gives better values than a full atomisitic treatment, we point out the following discrepancy: calculations of the effect of including a gold adatom in the tunneling path for 1,4-phenyldithiol show that the conductance is significantly increased. In contrast, the jellium model predicts a two-order of magnitude decrease in conductance in this case, a result that isrndifficult to reconcile with the unit quantum conductance of a line of gold atoms.
