Two probiotic strains of Lactobacillus agilis JCM 1048 and Lactobacillus salivar-ius subsp. salicinius JCM 1230 isolated from chicken intestine exhibited probiotic characteristics were used for chicken production. The results showed after 7 days of probiotic feeding (FD7), the lactobacilli count significantly increased (P < 0.05) in the probiotic group (group P) in comparision with that in the control group (group C), meanwhile the enterococci and enterobacteria counts were observed no change in this stage. After 40 days of probiotic feeding (FD40) the lactobacilli and entercocci counts were stable and the enterobacteria number significantly reduced (P < 0.05). The enterococci count showed no significance of differences between the group P and group C in both stages of FD7 and FD40. The effect of two probiotic Lactobacillus strains resulted in 10.71% increase of weight gains of chicken at FD40 in the group P when comparing with those in the group C. The significance of differences in weight gain between the group P and group C were detected (P < 0.05) at FD30 and (P < 0.01) at FD40.
