Aero-engine manufacturing is one of the peaks of aerospace: delivering high-powered military engines and reliable fuel-efficient civil power plants is a rare skill, possessed fully by only three companies worldwide. One is the UK national treasure Rolls-Royce, now a globalised enterprise with major facilities not only in Britain but North America, Germany and Singapore. The German location is now a key element in Rolls' post-Brexit positioning, retaining registration under EASA regulations. The Russians struggle to make competitive airliners with indigenous engines; the Chinese would dearly love to make the leap; and, (with a hushed voice), civil engines in France have depended on American technology.
