Looking to the future, as oil stocks diminish, combined with increasing envirionmental pressure to limit the emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases, more attention is being focused on alternative ways to power aircraft. One solution under consideration is biofuels but these bring their own problems in terms of the land and space needed to grow them. Another area of research is looking at the potential of hydrogen fuel cells but these also have issues to be resolved with storage and safety.
