There has been another twist in the legal saga involving Portugal's Aenergy, the Angolan government and the US giant General Electric (GE) after new documentation was submitted to New York's Southern District Court on 30 November. Put together by the attorney Vincent Levy of Holwell Shuster & Goldberg, which is representing Aenergy and its boss Ricardo Leitão Machado, the submission is intended to back up one of the plaintiff's central charges : the alleged expropriation by Luanda of turbines belonging to the Portuguese company. Drawing on satellite photos from Google Maps corroborated by observations carried out on the ground, Levy asserts that the turbines were transported for use in power stations managed by the state-owned Prodel, especially the Lubango plant located some 1,000 km from Luanda. This documentation should be further grist to Aenergy's mill. The company took the Angolan state to court in New York back in April for allegedly unilaterally tearing up a series of electricity project contracts signed in August 2017 and worth a total of $1.1bn.
