摘要

The Afar, who are very economically dependent on their neighbours in Tigray, have been hard hit by the civil war ravaging northern Ethiopia. There is growing discontent in the northern Afar Region in Ethiopia. This region, which borders on Tigray, had a frontseat view of the routing of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) at the end of June by the Tigray Defense Forces (TDF, AI, 06/07/21). Mekele, the Tigray administrative capital which was recaptured by the TDF on 28 June, is only 30 km from the border with Afar Region. Fleeing ENDF fighters, pursued by the TDF, took refuge there and received support from part of the population, who facilitated their transit towards Semera, the capital city of Afar and the evacuation of the wounded to hospital in Dubte, further south. Having provided this aid, however, the Afar are increasingly dissatisifed with the treatment they have had from prime minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and his government.
