Because construction of the Inga 3 dam is being constantly put back ( AEI 739), the Societe Nationale d’Electricite (SNEL) is trying to increase the capacity of Inga 1 (341 MW) and 2 (1,424 MW). And that’s particularly urgent because the dry season has greatly reduced the river’s flow and thus the dams’ reserves, to the point that SNEL’s managing director, Eric Mbala Musanda, has urged households to reduce their consumption.
