According to our sources, the highly sensitive question of setting up a national oil company in Gabon is being handled directly by the staff of president Ali Bongo. The latter's chief-of-staff, Maixent Accrombessi, who was born in Benin, heads the small team in charge of the question. Accrombessi not only sees to Bongo's communications but also holds the government's purse strings. It's for that reason that he oversees plans for a state-owned oil company that would allow the government to directly manage oil revenue. Maixent has long-standing ties with Bongo.
