摘要

The soils of semi arid tropics of Andhra Pradesh, India are predominantly Inceptisols, Entisols and Alfisols, which are shallow in depth and coarse in texture. The quality of these soils is deteriorating over the years due to non addition of organic matter, neglected use of FYM, mono cropping practice and increased use of chemical fertilizers by the farmers. On the other hand, large quantities of crop stalks from crops like maize, castor, sunflower and residue from pulse crops is being burnt or left on the fields due to increase in farm labour cost constraining its conversion into useful manure. Hence, to manage such stalks in situ, a tractor front mounted crop stalk slasher was designed and developed.
