As a retired marine who was a military lawyer in the Regular Marine Corps from 1981 to 1992 and in the Reserve Marine Corps from 1993 to 2009,I have the following comments about Adam Hebert's "Do the Right Thing" editorial [July, p. 4]. He is of course correct that we should not have to tell military members not to mistreat each other, including by sexual or other harassment, just as we should not have to tell them not to point loaded weapons at each other. Human nature being as it is, however, the message about proper treatment among the ranks must be "transmitted in the clear" repeatedly just as we constantly emphasize firearms and aviation safety.
