British Airways is considering adding second-hand A380s to its fleet, according to Willie Walsh, CEO of the carrier's parent company International Airlines Group (IAG). Walsh told the Airline Economics Summit in Dublin that IAG was investigating leasing "five or six" used A380s to the carrier's network, reports said, and that fellow IAG carrier Iberia could also potentially operate some second-hand super jumbos. BA operates ten A380s and is this year due to receive the last two examples from the 12-aircraft firm order it placed in 2007. The carrier has options on another five, but Walsh told the summit leasing second-hand examples would be more cost-effective. A used A380 market is set to open once the first examples exit the fleets of early operators, such as Singapore Airlines and Emirates, in around three or four years' time.
