The US Marine Corps is considering a range of armament options as upgrades for its Boeing-Bell MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, according to Deputy Commandant for Aviation, Lieutenant General Jon Davis, speaking at the annual Navy League exhibition in Washington on May 15. Since the marines first announced a programme to increase Osprey armament options in 2014, the service has been evaluating the Lockheed Martin AGM-114 Hellfire and Raytheon AGM-176 Griffin air-to-surface-missiles, and the Northrop Grumman GBU-44/B Viper Strike air-to-surface guided glide munition. Other Osprey upgrades include mounting a laser target designator in the nose. The US Marine Corps is also evaluating integration of sensor pods and associated datalinks on the MV-22B. The ALQ-231 Intrepid Tiger pod, currently used on Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornets and AV-8B Harrier Us, has already been evaluated.
