The Raytheon AIM-120 AMRAAM (advanced medium range air-to-air missile) is approaching the limits of its basic design, General Hawk Carlisle, the commander of the US Air Force Air Combat Command, said to the House of Representatives' Armed Services Committee. It should be replaced by a new missile combining improved kinetic performance and networked capability with a smaller size that would enable more to be carried, especially in fifth-generation fighters' internal weapons bays.
