摘要

India, South Korea and Pakistan have current fighter programmes which have all been under way in one form or another for many years, but only the latter has an aircraft in service in any meaningful numbers. Although not strictly an indigenous programme, as it has been co-developed with China, Pakistan's JF-17 Thunder multi-role fighter is already being produced in the latest Block Ⅱ configuration for the Pakistan Air Force. South Korea is developing its KF-X to replace the Republic of Korea Air Force's (RoKAF) elderly McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom and Northrop F-5E Tiger fighters, with an in-service date planned for 2025. The programme began back in 2001 but has been repeatedly delayed. In March, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) was selected as the preferred bidder for the 18.5 trillion won ($16.2 billion) programme, which will acquire 120 aircraft for the RoKAF.
