For the first time in history, pilots from the Russian and Serbian Air Force have conducted a joint exercise. The two-day event involved MiG-29 Fulcrum fighters and Mi-8MT Hip helicopters flying missions from Privolzhskiy Air Base near the city of Astrakhan in southern Russia on October 6 and 7. Exercise BARS 2015 (BARS denoting Brotherhood of Aviators from Russia and Serbia) was hosted by the 116th Operational Fighter Training Centre at Privolzhskiy and the live firing was carried out at the Ashuluk range. Serbian MiG-29 and Mi-17 pilots conducted combat training in accordance with the exercise objectives: to counter air strikes while protecting the army and facilities. The goal was to train mixed Russian-Serbian crews to conduct combat missions. Seven Serbian Air Force pilots from the 101st Fighter Aviation Squadron (101. lovacka avijacijska eskadrila) flew in mixed crews with seven Russian colleagues from the 116th Operational Fighter Training Centre.
