The grey and chilly London that greeted delegates at the World Travel Market (WTM) 2015 early in November contrasted sharply with the colour and vibrancy of the displays inside the huge exhibition halls at the ExCeL Centre, which played host to the world's biggest travel industry expo. This year's WTM attracted more than 5,000 visitors from 186 countries, reflecting the global interconnectedness of the travel industry - and the airline industry that plays a central role in making it work. In a seminar during the event, senior executives from leading airlines and industry bodies discussed some of the big trends in the airline business - foremost among them the low-cost segment's maturation. Rafael Schvartzman, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Regional Vice-President Europe, told the forum that the organisation's data shows that low-cost carriers (LCCs) now account for 40% of all air travel journeys in Europe alone.
