The last six of 36 former Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Force, RNLAF) F-16 Fighting Falcons sold to the Fuerza Aerea de Chile (FACh, Chilean Air Force) were ferried to South America between August 29 and September 2. They were officially handed over to the FACh at Base Aerea Cerro Moreno near Antofagasta on September 3. This was the third and final batch of the 18 F-16AMs delivered as part of a contract announced by the FACh on April 28, 2009, confirmed by the Dutch Ministry of Defence on May 25 and signed at the Paris Air Show the following month. The first two batches of aircraft of the Peace Amstel II deal, also comprising six F-16AMs each, were ferried to Chile between November 4 and 8, 2010 (see Dutch F-16s Delivered to Chile, December 2010, p27) and April 4 and 8. In 2006/2007, the FACh took delivery of eleven F-16AMs and seven F-16BMs under the Peace Amstel I agreement signed on December 16, 2005. While the first 18 F-16s were configured to Mid- Life Update (MLU) M2 software standard, the 18 additional aircraft were all in M4 configuration. Five of the final six F-16s took off from Volkel AB on August 29, for the first leg of the journey to the Spanish air base Gando on Gran Canaria. They comprised F-16AMs J-203 (which became 745 in FACh service), J-620 (742), J-365 (756), J-874 (750) and J-875 (751). The final example (J-627, 743), was unable to depart on time, but joined the other aircraft at Gando the following day. They flew to Salvador AB in Brazil on August 31, and continued to BA Cerro Moreno on September 2.
