On October 5 PT Dirgantara Indonesia and Airbus Military signed a teaming agreement. Under the terms of the deal the European company will help implement an 18-month recovery plan for the Indonesian firm, that potentially includes marketing and co-production of the C295 medium transport. Production of the aircraft by PT Dirgantara Indonesia depends upon the Indonesian Government confirming interest in it as a replacement for the air force's Fokker F27 fleet. A total of 88 C295s have been ordered, of which 78 have been delivered. With a production rate of 18 a year, Airbus Military is keen to identify new customers for the aircraft. Airbus Military and PT Dirgantara Indonesia will also explore designs for the 19- to 50-passenger civil utility sector with the aim of capturing a substantial share of the Indonesian and export markets for such aircraft. In the longer term there may be joint development of variants of the Airbus Military range of aircraft that can undertake intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, as well as search and rescue roles.
