The Dutch MoD recently signed a contract with the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency for the acquisition of four General Atomics-Aeronautical Systems Inc MQ-9 Reaper medium-altitude long-endurance UAVs. The acquisition of the aircraft for the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (Royal Netherlands Air Force) was originally scheduled for 2015, but was postponed due to budget constraints at the time. The US State Department approved the deal under the US Foreign Military Sales programme on February 6, 2015. In the 2015 document, the deal for the aircraft plus associated equipment, parts, training and logistics support was valued at $339 million and included four MQ-9s in Block 5 configuration, four mobile ground stations, six Honeywell TPE331-10T turboprop engines (including two spares), six AN/DAS-1 Multi-Spectral Targeting Systems (MTS)-B, four Lynx synthetic aperture radar/ ground moving target indicator systems with maritime wide-area search capability, as well as initial and readiness spares packages to support 3,400 flight hours for a three-year period.
