AIRBUS DEFENCE has announced details of a new concept for the Eurofighter, which will introduce an electronic combat role (ECR) variant to the multi-role fighter. The company presented the Eurofighter ECR concept at the International Fighter Conference in Berlin in November, stating that initial capability is expected to be available for the aircraft by 2026. This will then be followed by further development for full integration into the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS), due to enter service around 2040.
