After ten years of hard work, Avro Vulcan B.2 V-bomber XH558/G-VLCN, the first of the type to ever be operated as a civilian aircraft, finally took to the air again from Bruntingthorpe, Leicestershire, for an initial post-restoration test flight at 1229hrs on October 18. The aircraft was airborne for 32 minutes in the hands of Squadron Leader David Thomas (chief pilot), Squadron Leader Al McDicken (pilot) and Squadron Leader Barry Masefield (air electronics officer). The flight paves the way for the Vulcan to the Sky Trust to complete test flying and prepare the aircraft to appear on the display circuit.
