In recent years, the argument that space is increasingly becoming a contested domain has gained wider acceptance as countries make renewed or, in some cases, their first steps to gain a strategic foothold in this evolving frontier. Technology and competition is driving this progress, offering new opportunities as well as challenges for the established and emergent powers. Israel's space-based operations have a decades-old history and the country has developed its own space access and launch capabilities in order to secure its security interests in both the civil and military sectors.Tal Inbar is head of the Space Research Center at the Fisher Institute for Air and Space Strategic Studies and one of Israel's leading experts on space policy and missile systems. Among his areas of expertise is North Korea's space and missile programmes, which he has covered for many years, as we/I as its military co-operation with Iran. In addition, he is an adviser to the Israeli Space Agency on various issues, working with the strategic branch of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He also consults with national defence primes on trends and influences in the domain.
