The Royal Canadian Mounted Police/ Gendarmerie Royale du Canada (RCMP/GRC), also commonly known as the Mounties, is the country's I national police force and an agency of the Ministry of the Solicitor General. The RCMP is unique because it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body. In its provincial role it covers all the provinces except for Ontario and Quebec, as a federal police force it has jurisdiction throughout the country, but it is also a municipal police force in certain cities, mainly those in British Columbia.
