One of the Royal Thai Navy's two Canadair CL-215-Ill amphibians, delivered in 1978, has returned to operational service after 12 years in storage. The aircraft flew again in January 2013 and has been issued to 201 Squadron based at U-Tapao International Airport. During February it took part in search and rescue exercises, operating from Sattahip naval base, Chon Buri. The second aircraft was cannibalised for spare parts for the restoration. The decision to put the CL-215-IU back into service was taken because plans to purchase Bombardier 415s had to be shelved because of a lack of finance.
