"I wouldn't call it a screech exactly. It's just not that reassuring, happy hum that all of us were so accustomed to." TSgt Dorris Anderson, a crew chief, was describing the second-generation Hercules aircraft, the 'J-model', with its new engines, propellers, cockpit, loading system and avionics. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), where Anderson works, was late to embrace the 'J-model', also called the Super Hercules, but is making up for the delay by inducting HC-130J rescue and MC-130J special-ops airframes into the inventory at a respectable pace. "It does sound different," Anderson told AIR International. "It feels different. It flies different."
