Upgrades to all three of the US Air Force strategic bombers are continuing. On September 26 it was announced that all operational Northrop B-2A Spirits had been upgraded under the Radar Modernisation Program (RMP). RMP added active electronically scanned array technology to the AN/APQ-181 radars installed in the bombers. A total of 15 upgrades were undertaken at Whiteman AFB, Missouri, five under the system development and demonstration (SDD) phase in 2009 and ten between the third quarter of 2010 and first quarter of 2012, under the production phase. A further aircraft was modified at Palmdale, California, when the aircraft received its programmed depot maintenance (PDM).
