摘要

In germany, if you put a swastika decal on a plastic model of a Messerschmitt, you can be fined the equivalent of thousands of dollars. Schoolchildren are required to tour the remains of concentration camps. The Germans are horrified by what their nation wrought during World War II, and they either punish themselves for it or turn their backs on it. The German ace Adolf Galland, this book recounts, once participated in a seminar for U.S. aviation enthusiasts, 2,000 of whom paid $20 each to hear Luftwaffe aces reminisce. Galland mentioned that "if a similar seminar had been held in Germany, there may have been perhaps a hundred or so persons who would have come, but they would have been outside protesting."
