Frequency modulated surface movement radar (FMSMR) provides controllers with a clear surface airport situation data display to enable them to better manage operations in poor weather compared with older conventional pulsed amplitude radars. At an airport, controllers continuously issue instructions for taxiing and clearances for aircraft/vehicle movements, and have to do so even in the worst weather, such as heavy rainfall or fog. FMSMR provides wide area, 360° surveillance and tracking across the whole airport.
