The European Commission (EC) issued a reasoned opinion (a formal request to comply with EU law) against Belgium, which it said failed to comply with the bloc's legislation on the common charging scheme for air navigation services.Regulation (EC) No 1794/2006 requires member states to establish a unit rate for terminal charges from Jan. 1, 2010 for all airports with over 50,000 commercial operations per year. This unit rate must be subject to prior consultation with airline representatives and documentation on the calculation methods should be sent to the EC three weeks before this consultation.
